1. Wendell Berry Dies at 92

Wendell Berry was an American poet, novelist, essayist, and environmental activist who passed away at his home in Port Royal, Kentucky, at the age of 92 on 31 August 2026. He authored more than 50 books and was widely known for his writings on agrarian life, industrial agriculture, and rural communities in the United States.

Literary Career

Berry worked across poetry, fiction, essays, and literary criticism for several decades. His 1977 book, The Unsettling of America: Culture & Agriculture, explored industrial agriculture and agrarian culture. He was also recognised for his writings on land use, farming, and local economies in Kentucky.

Agrarian Thought and Environmental Writing

In 1964, Berry returned to Henry County, Kentucky, where he farmed near the Kentucky River with his wife, Tanya Amyx Berry. His literary work linked agriculture, conservation, and rural life. He was also regarded as an environmental activist in American public life.

2. Vice President Launches Gnani Artha Sovereign AI Stack

Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan launched Gnani Artha, an indigenous sovereign Artificial Intelligence stack, at Uprashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on 28 August 2026. The stack was developed by Bengaluru-based voice and conversational AI startup GNANI AI and is intended to provide data residency and technological sovereignty for Indian public institutions and enterprises.

Gnani Artha Architecture

Gnani Artha consists of two main components: Evon v3.3 and Plexus. Evon v3.3 serves as the foundational language model, while Plexus functions as an enterprise-grade agentic AI orchestration platform.

Evon v3.3 is an open-weights model containing 30 billion parameters. It follows a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture and activates approximately 3.5 billion parameters per token.

Language Support and Model Access

Evon v3.3 supports 11 Indian languages. GNANI AI has made the model weights available on request through Hugging Face under the Apache 2.0 licence.

The tokenizer designed for Indian scripts uses around 20% fewer tokens per Indian-language word compared with the GPT-5 family. It also uses less than half the tokens required by models such as DeepSeek, Llama, and Qwen.

Plexus and Enterprise Use

Plexus is a commercial platform intended for deploying autonomous, goal-oriented AI agents across internal organisational workflows. It is designed to provide secure AI deployment for organisations that require controlled deployment within enterprise environments.
